Austin band UME will make their 2nd appearance this year at the Lounge on Elm St. This time to promote the “digital only” release of their new EP, which comes out two days prior to this show. Dentron’s Record Hop will support them and Dallas’ The League of Fucking Decency will open.

An almost weekly assortment of musical oddities purchased or given to POF:

ABE VIGODA - Reviver EP 12″ (post present medium) - 5 song EP released on No Age’s label.

BOOK OF BLACK EARTH - Horoskopus (prosthetic) - I haven’t listened to this yet, but it feels Satanic just picking it up.

GOLDEN TRIANGLE - S/T 12″ + mp3 (mexican summer) - Clear vinyl with brown splatter, ltd. to 500 copies. hand-numbered. Tenth release from Kemado Records’ boutique mail-order label, Mexican Summer.

HIGH SCHOOL RECORD - DVD (stop following me) - ltd. to 1000 copies. Movie contains performances by Mike Watt, Dean of No Age, members of Mika Miko and Lavender Diamond. Directed by Ben Wolfinshohn, who filmed Friends Forever.

The PAINS OF BEING PURE AT HEART - S/T 12″ (slumberland)

SILK FLOWERS - At This Place in Time 7″ (post present medium)

SUPERCHARGER - Smashing Up the Future EP (self) - I am sure this is ’smashing’ if you fancy bands on Gearhead Records’ roster (i don’t). Newcastle, England band sounding like motorcycle fueled cock-rock on their debut EP.

WOLVES IN THE THRONEROOM - Malevolent Grain EP 12″ (southern lord) - Two epic black metal tracks clocking in at over 20 minutes. Available on vinyl only. There is also a limited edition version available through mail-order; 1000 press on Forest Green colored vinyl.

The Black Angels’ curate their 2nd annual Psych Fest in Austin on March 13th - 15th, right before SXSW begins on the 16th.  I would love to see all these bands, (again): A Place to Bury Strangers, Dead Meadow, Indian Jewelry, The Strange Boys and The Warlocks. The best day is definitely Sunday. I have The Upsidedown playing in Dallas the day after.  Here is the only ‘official’ information I’ve seen.
