SLIDESHOW

Queens added to Little Joy show

Who is Queens?  Queens is Scott Mou solo.  Scott is also half of JANE from Panda Bear/Animal Collective fame.

“Having met whilst working in a New York record store (undoubtedly alongside the obligatory resident cat), Scott Mou and Noah Lennox (aka Panda Bear of the Animal Collective) bonded over their love of Detroit, Chicago and Berlin dance and formed Jane with the express purpose of ditching the binary and cranking up the soul. Comprised of three tracks (a fourth bonus cut on the CD), ‘Beserker’ is a good introduction to the Jane oeuvre, providing a precise cross section of their sound. Opening with the title track, Mou and Lennox present a rousing but beatless six minutes that has overt shades of Sigur Ros within its cushioned swelling vistas, an outlook similarly shared on the following ‘AGG Report’. Taking a cue from Twin Peaks, ‘AGG Report’ introduces a dubby fingered rhythm that appropriates a ~scape refit of Plug Reasearch-era Tejada that swoops and soars throughout. Closing the record is ‘Slipping Away’, a dark-hearted midnight trip down to the woods that uses a slow burn, Bert Jansch framework to silhouette a polite (but insistent) build towards an anbalogue heavy, jackhammer beat.” - from boomkat.com

Recently Acquired

An almost weekly assortment of musical oddities purchased or given to POF.

ALL THE SAINTS/THESE ARMS ARE SNAKES - Split 7″ + d/l (touch and go)

The ANTLERS - Hospice (frenchkiss) Multi-instrumental lush pop-rock trio’s 4th album. They will be playing at the Cavern with Au Revoir Simone on June 4th.

BELLINI - The Precious Prize of Gravity (temporary residence ltd) - The real “Italians do it better”. Veterans of acts such as Girls Vs. Boys, the Romulans and Uzeda; Bellini release their third album after a 4 year hiatus.

FUCKED UP - The Year of the Rat/First Born 12″ (what’s your rupture?) Lyrics on insert

GODS & QUEENS - Untitled 12″ + CD (robotic empire) Gatefold sleeve, translucent-purple vinyl limited to 425 copies. Ex-Versoma, the other half went on to form TOMBS. Their drummer got injured recently, so they canceled their upcoming US tour, but are playing scattered dates in the Northeast this June. Gods & Queens are dark and moody shoegazer trio.

The INTELLIGENCE - Reading and Writing About Partying B/W Like Like Like Like Like Like Like 7″ (raw deluxe) Stamped white label.

The INTELLIGENCE - Fake Surfers 12″ (in the red) Trifold LP sized poster with all lyrics

MIDNIGHT - Farewell to Hell 10″ (anti-goth) Embossed cover. Poster with lyrics on back side.

OUTLAW ORDER - Dragging Down the Enforcer (season of mist) Limited edition version, comes housed in a metal case. 4/5ths of eyehategod (and Soilent Green) form this crusty sludge metal band. Following the motto “Legalize Crime” these veterans are notorious for ‘practicing what they preach’; the drummer was thrown out of Club Dada this past Friday for smoking crack in the bathroom.

The PAINS OF BEING PURE AT HEART - Everything with You/The Pains of Being Pure at Heart 7″ blue vinyl & Young Adult Friction/Ramona 7″ red vinyl (slumberland/fortunapop)

PONYTAIL - Kamehameha 12″ (gaarden) - White vinyl. A vinyl re-issue of Ponytail’s first album from 2006.

The ROLLER - S/T 12″ (monofonus press) - Debut full-length from Austin metal heads. Be on the look out for them this year. Lyrics on insert.

TOMBS/PLANKS - Split 12″ +d/l (black box recordings) - Orange split limited to 200, hand-numbered with silkscreen sleeve. Lyrics featured on insert.

TRAP THEM - Sleepwell Deconstructor (trash art/decay)

TRUE WIDOW tour kick-off with Ponytail and Fightbite. Ponytail’s newest album, Ice Cream Spiritual (we are free), came out in March. The lyrics (or lyrical stylings), which the majority of the time are indecipherable and incoherent, can be thought of as a drunk Bjork or an spastic Satomi of Deerhoof. The music can directly be compared to Brooklyn’s Parts & Labor or Pterodactyl. I caught Ponytail at Club 1808 in Austin in March and was completely amazed by their enthusiastic performance and how ecstatic I felt after.
