US TWO Records ‘02′ available now

US TWO RECORDS ‘02’ BATWINGS / WHEN DINOSAURS RULED THE EARTH - Dr. Ohm vs. The Exploding Amp / Houston Voice

US TWO RECORDS second split vinyl release “02” brings together San Diego’s BATWINGS and Austin’s WHEN DINOSAURS RULED THE EARTH. Run in a limited batch of 500 copies (300 transparent red with black bleed & silver splatter and 200 black with silver splatter), this technique was a first for Pirate’s Press and also their “Record of the Week” ending on July 17th, 2009.

Batwings showcases the track Dr. Ohm vs. The Exploding Amp which highlights their spastic hardcore sound influenced from early 2000 SoCal underground acts such as The Locust, Holy Molar and Le Shok. Dr. Ohm vs. The Exploding Amp was recorded by Batwings: Robert Christopher Lopez - Bass/Keys/Vox, Bryan Edward Oczkowski - Guitar/Vox, Larry Raymond Stage – Guitar and Juan Sebastian Ulloa –Drums. As a favor to “US”, the track was mastered by Dana Fehr.

Austin mini-grunge orchestra, When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth, recorded their track Houston Voice as a seven piece, but are currently touring as a 4, sometimes 5 piece. They have been featured on a Cardboard Records compilation; an experimental noise and lo-fi electronic label run by Dan Friel and B.J. Warshaw of Parts & Labor. “Houston Voice” was engineered by Chico Jones at OHM Recording Facility in Austin, TX and mixed by Chico and dinos. The band: cory, marc, nate, george, brandon, jeff, and jesse.

BATWINGS and WHEN DINOSAURS RULED THE EARTH will be performing together at THE CASBAH in San Diego on August 17th, 2009.

Records will be available this Friday from When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth, who are playing Parade of Flesh’s birthday on July 24th with Pterodactyl and Church of the Snake.

Edicion Especial: Parade of Flesh took the first 100 copies of vinyl (50 red and 50 black) and added a gun metal metallic paper sleeve with velum liner notes attached by a satin ribbon on a hand-numbered tag. All hand assembled and designed by girl wonder: Margarita Buenaventura.

SkeletonWitch Crash Cymbal

Last night I filmed most of SkeletonWitch’s set at Emo’s. They were on the last leg of the “Stone Dead for Summer” tour with Trap Them and Saviours; which I also filmed.  Look for videos from Trap Them and Saviours soon, but the SkeletonWitch footage went to the band for an upcoming DVD. The next album, Breathing The Fire has been recorded and is set for release October 13th on Prosthetic.

Here is a cracked MEINL Mb10 16″ heavy crash cymbal I bought as-is and signed for a measly $10 at the Emo’s show: (used on Breathing The Fire recordings)

Saviours’ Seven Inches

I was going to list this in the Recently Acquired section, but I thought this deserved a separate entry.

Oakland, CA’s black metal act, SAVIOURS, released three seven inches simultaneously for their current tour which ends this week. Each vinyl is a different color and comes with a little bonus as well. The first is Acid Hand/Slave to the Hex on translucent white vinyl with a large Saviours’ sticker. The second is Burnin’ Cross/Fire in the Sky (Saxon cover) on translucent black vinyl and comes with a Saviours’ patch. The final of the three is  F.G.T./Running Wild (Judas Priest cover) on dirty grey vinyl with poster. Vinyl limited to 500 copies each. All three sleeves form one epic drawing by Tim Lehi. Saviours next full length is due in October. All three seven inches are available from the band, select indie shops or through Kemado Records.

New Show: A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS, Darker My Love & All the Saints

The triple-bill tour of A Place to Bury Strangers, Darker My Love & All the Saints will definitely be my most beloved show this Fall. Besides constantly listening to the “Total Sonic Annihilation” of music created by A Place to Bury Strangers aka “the loudest band in New York” for 2 years, I have been trying to get California psychedelic band, Darker My Love to play Dallas for quite sometime (since their split 12″ with Moccasins). This will be Darker My Love’s third trip to Texas in the past few years, having played in Dentron twice: Once as tour support for ??? ( I cant recall) and another time opening for These Arms Are Snakes, who recently released a split 7″ with All the Saints, the openers on this tour.  A Place to Bury Strangers‘ second album, Exploding Head (mute) will be coming out and this year, they played Le Rock Dans, Siren, La Route Du Rock, Reading, Leeds and the upcoming All Tomorrow’s Parties in December.

The only time APTBS played Dallas, was at the Loft with Sian Alice Group and not too many people knew about the show. Hopefully by October people will catch on to how awesome this show will be.
