Jeff Pinkus, bassist of legends Butthole Surfers, is now playing guitar and banjo with his new country band from Austin, Pure Luck. Pure Luck is pure Doublewide Bar drinking whiskey music.
Nick Oliveri, infamous bassist and founding member of Queens of the Stone Age who parted ways with them at their peak in 2004. Gaining notoriety after the demise of epic stoner-rock band, Kyuss, Nick Oliveri has been a long-standing rotating member of the vile Dwarves (as Rex Everything) and continues full time with his rock trio Mondo Generator. Nick Oliveri will play an extended acoustic set of songs from his extensive catalog. Expect an hour to an hour and a half of songs. Side note: He worked at Stubb’s in Austin back in the day.
Nick Oliveri is touring in honor of his solo album, Death Acoustic, released by Australian label Impedance Records.

BRO FEST 2010 will be a one-day festival featuring 17 distinct newcomers and established touring acts from a variety of genres. “Bro Fest” is an alternate name to follow up last year’s inaugural South by South Flesh. SXSFlesh 2009 featured Young Widows, My Disco, Thee Oh Sees, Women, Abe Vigoda, Pterodactyl, Ty Segall, The Coathangers, Vampire Hands, Sleepy Sun, The Fresh & Onlys, Howl and Juarez. Wavves and Trash Talk were unable to play due to excessive partying in Austin and horrendous traffic on I-35 North.
Consider the traffic if you are coming from Austin. A normal drive from Austin to Dallas via I-35 North is 3 hrs. On this particular date, the exodus of people will cause traffic to be around a 5+ hour drive if you leave after 1PM from Austin. There are alternate routes that take just as long, but there won’t be any stop-and-go traffic (tends to be a more relaxing drive).

Half of the duo that was recently arrested in Kentucky for mushrooms along with their tour manager, will be coming to Dallas with his other garage band, KING KHAN & the SHRINES. Bringing a large psychedelic German backing band, King Khan & the Shrines will be touring again for What Is?! (vice). Both bands have ampersands in their name!! The Fresh & Onlys had their debut LP put out last year on John Dywer’s (Thee Oh Sees) label Castleface.
